How To

How to Fly Drones with Beginners

A drone is a remote-controlled aircraft used for aerial photography, cinematography, surveillance, scientific research, and hobby purposes. Drones are a technology that has been around since World War II. DJI introduced their Phantom series of quadcopters in 2010, but commercial use only began in 2010. Since then, there have been many different types of drones available, from beginner-friendly models like the Parrot AR Drone 2.0 to professional-grade multi-rotor craft like the DJI Mavic Pro.

There are many options for flying a drone.

  1. Remote control – This is when you attach a device to your hand that allows you to control the drone's flight path. There are two main types for controllers: Joysticks or On/Off switches, which can be used to control the drone's flight path.
  2. Manual Control - This method uses a smartphone app to remotely control the drone using GPS coordinates. The app will give you instructions.
  3. Autonomous flight - The drone takes over the piloting duties. The drone is able to fly autonomously, without the need for human intervention. The drone must be equipped with a camera and sensors that can capture images and data in order to fly autonomously.
  4. Triggered flight - This is similar to manual control except that the pilot sets up a preprogrammed route and the drone follows the route until it reaches its destination. Once the programmed route is completed, the drone lands automatically and returns back to the base.
  5. Landing Gear- Some drones include landing gear that allows for safe landing if the power goes out or they run out of batteries.
  6. Goggles-Some pilots use goggles to protect their eyes from debris during operations.
  7. Camera – Some drones have cameras, which allow you to take photos or videos from up high.
  8. Obstacles: Some drones are equipped with obstacle avoidance systems to prevent them from hitting obstacles.
  9. Speed – Some drones can reach speeds in excess of 40 mph.
  10. Battery Life: Most drones have a battery life of between 20 and 30 minutes depending on how many power sources you use.
  11. Range - Some drones can travel upto 30 miles depending on their models.
  12. Power source - Some drones require an external power source; others work off internal batteries.
  13. Weight - Some drones are lighter than others, while some models can weigh as much as 4 pounds.
  14. Size - Drones come in many sizes, from small gadgets that fit in one's hands to large craft that weigh more than 50 lbs.
  15. Price - High-end drones can go for thousands of dollars, while low-cost models start at $100.
