Drones as a Weapon to Combat ISIS

Although the United States, Russia, as well as other countries, want to use modern aircraft more often, Ukraine lacks the resources necessary to train its troops on these aircraft. The Ukrainians can get training on planes and vehicles in Western countries, but not the same on drones here. Ukrainians are used to using older equipment like trucks, and drones are easier to use for them. Drones don't require pilots, making them easier for soldiers to use. Drones feature a user-friendly interface similar to that found in videogames.

Aerorozvidka

Ukrainian military uses an unusual approach to fighting ISIS in east Ukraine. Octocopters are equipped with thermal cameras and can be used for night-time missions. Some drones have anti-tank weapons, and can light up columns. These drones can carry up to 11 lbs worth of payload and are extremely maneuverable. Because they are small, drones can be flown low and over targets to drop munitions.

Originally an IT enthusiast group, Aerorozvidka has become a military air reconnaissance unit. Although the organization started as a civil drone company, it grew into a fully-fledged unit with its head. Due to export restrictions, the Ukrainian government prohibited Russian military aircraft entry into Ukraine. Aerorozvidka depends on crowdfunding and donations to keep the company afloat, as many of the drone components are made in the USA.

Switchblade

The U.S. military supplies Ukraine with "Switchblade", armed drones that can strike Russian tanks far away. These unmanned aerial vehicles were developed by the US Air Force in response to Ukrainian requirements. John Kirby (Pentagon spokesperson) stated that more then 121 of these machines have been dispatched to Ukraine. However, there are no details on how the Switchblades might be used in the conflict in Ukraine.

The Switchblade small drone can be launched easily from a tube. It is capable of traveling 40 kilometers. Unlike Bayraktar drones, the Switchblade can hit a Russian convoy from 6 miles away. These small aircraft can set up quickly in a conflict like Ukraine. The Switchblade can fly faster than the Bayraktar which is currently the U.S. ally.

Russian kamikaze drones

The US recently announced a military aid package worth $800 million to Ukraine. One of those packages includes the delivery of 121 unmanned planes, known as "Phoenix Ghosts," that are designed to terrorize Russian troops. These aircraft can hover over areas for 30- to 40 minutes and are equipped to carry warheads and cameras. Switchblade is one such drone. It's a hovering munition measuring 5.5 pounds, and it can eliminate armored vehicles as well as tanks.

These lightweight aircrafts are small and light, and can operate from any location, whether it is land, air or sea. A conflict like this is where every advantage one side has over the other in an aerial battle is critical. Russian kamikaze helicopters are a direct threat. This capability is likely to be a key weapon for Ukraine's military as it can break Russian sieges and attack command and control nodes. While such capabilities would be a major liability for both sides, if a small drone can make a difference on the battlefield, Ukraine could emerge as the victor.

U.S. loitering drones

Russia is now integrating ZALA KYB lotering munitions in its military arsenal. These drones can use deadly loitering munitions similar to bazookas. These autonomous killing machines may be more common in black markets if loitering drones are used. But experts and observers are worried. So what can the U.S. do to stop this from happening?

Kirby reports that the U.S. government dispatched more then 121 Switchblade loitering drones to Ukraine to support Kiev's fight against Russian forces. The Switchblade drone can hover in a given area for between 30 and 40 minutes. It weighs in at 5.5 pounds. It is fitted with a camera and a small warhead. It's intended mission is to attack the opposition forces in Ukraine.

How To

How to Repair a Damaged Motor on a Drone

The first step toward repairing a damaged motor is to identify what part of the motor is broken. The best way to do so is to take the propeller off the motor shaft. You should then remove the wires that are attached to the motor, and examine the inner workings. If you notice something amiss, you'll know what part of your motor to fix.

If there is no damage to the motor, then you don't have to worry too much however if the motor looks like one of these images below, then you'll need to replace some components before you can fly again.

Imagine a motor that isn't turning anymore because it has been bent. This means that you will need to bend the motor back into shape. For this purpose, you could use a vice grip to hold the motor and bend it back into shape. After you're done, check your motor for signs of wear.

Once you're satisfied that everything's ok, put the propeller back onto the motor shaft and reattach the wires. You are now ready for your drone to fly.
