The ICRC has provided interpretative guidance regarding armed UAVs (and british-made drones). In this article we look at the Military strategy behind these UAVs and what they have to do with our current world war. Although the military may have a valid reason to deploy these drones it doesn't mean that they shouldn't be allowed to speak for themselves. This article examines how drones and armed UAVs have changed our way of fighting conflict, and what that means for our safety.

ICRC interpretation of british drones

Many people are confused about how international humanitarian law should be applied to UK drone strikes. Drone strikes don't fall under the rule of distinction. The principle of proportionality should be applied to autonomous drones. Professor Noel Sharkey explains that a robotic operator can not perform subjective balancing and calculate value. This has serious implications.

ICRC guidance about armed UAVs

The civilian population faces significant challenges due to the use of drones with armed capabilities. While the use and widespread acceptance of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) armed drones is still very new, they pose significant risks to civilian populations. While drone strikes are able to be used against enemy troops and assets, they pose a threat to the civilian population. The Geneva Call reiterates that armed drone strikes must be carried out in accordance with applicable IHL principles. The Geneva Call calls on the parties to develop policies that govern the use of armed drones. This includes ensuring that drones are not directed against military objectives and minimizing civilian casualties. These strikes are not acceptable to civilians.

ICRC guidance on british helicopters

Interpretive Guidance by the ICRC regarding British drones has many positive aspects, including the prodigious knowledge of the Legal Division. It advances our general understanding of "direct participation," but also contains numerous fault lines. We will examine these fault lines, and discuss the implications for international law. This article is intended for a larger audience.

British drones are a part of a military strategy

Drones are becoming an increasingly popular tool for many purposes. Other countries began to explore the technology after the Vietnam War. New models emerged, which gained greater endurance, height, and more maneuverability. They are now being used for the defense of Ukraine. They are becoming increasingly popular with both business and leisure people all over the globe. But what is the Military strategy behind the British drones. Dr. James Rogers discusses drones and their use in a variety purposes, including military and civil applications.

Concerns of armed UAVs raised by the ICRC

In June 2017, President Peter Maurer of the ICRC met with top advisers to President Obama in Washington DC. The two discussed the sufficiency of international humanitarian laws, the latest developments in battlefields/waffen, and the roles of actors on the battlefield. He expressed concern about the use by armed British drones (in Afghanistan) that he claims is against international humanitarian law.
